4th Year Nursing Students Partner With CANES to Promote Health and Wellness for Seniors

Nursing students at University of New Brunswick - Humber College go through a variety of clinical placements in their 4 year program.

This clinical placement with CANES Community Care helped them explore health and wellness in a community setting. Most of our clients for CANES are still living in their own homes and apartments within the Etobicoke, Brampton, Malton and Woodbridge areas.  So quite often, it can be difficult to promote our programs and services to everyone digitally as not all CANES Clients have a computer.  However, thanks to social media outlets like Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, our wellness programs like Friendly Visiting, or even Transportation can be promoted to reach peoples phones who may be looking for services for their older parents.

The 4th year students were responsible for developing a health promotion message/presentation for a specific population within the community, in this case the older adult.  Below are promotional and educational materials that were developed by the students.  The students focussed there research on:

1.  Ride Connect Transportation Program

2.  Friendly Visiting, and Medication Management

3.  Home Safety

4.  Mental Health and Wellness

5.  Health and Physical Fitness

You can click on the documents below to download the PDF versions of the Promotional Pamphlets.

You can also click on the images below to view the Videos created by the students.

Be sure to follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, for more short video clips such as these for tips on how to improve the lives of Seniors living at home in their community.
