Being active as a senior is vital for good health, as it can reduce your risk of stroke, cancer, and heart attacks by a significant amount. Plus, you can have fun with it!

Here are 5 tips that you should seriously consider in order to become a more active senior.

Yoga

Yoga is a low impact exercise and easy for seniors. It can also help improve flexibility and reduce stress levels. Yoga can also lower blood pressure and improve sleep quality if practiced regularly enough. Yoga is also beneficial for people suffering from back pain or arthritis because it helps strengthen muscles around the joints.

Walk

Walking is one of the easiest ways to get up and moving every day. It’s also a low impact exercise that can be done anywhere with little equipment needed (just comfortable shoes!). There are many benefits of walking such as it improving sleep quality, reducing stress levels, improving memory function and lowering blood pressure among other things!

Dance

Dancing is another fun way to stay active while also having fun! You don’t have to go dancing at a club or bar – just put on some music in your living room or backyard and start moving around! Dancing is a great cardiovascular workout that has been shown to boost your mood.

Hunt for bargains

Shopping for bargains is an easy way for seniors to get active while also saving money on groceries and other household items. It won’t even feel like exercise as you walk from store to store looking for the best deals on whatever items you need. This not only exercises your brain but also your body and will help keep your heart rate up while you're out shopping!

Start a garden

An easy way for seniors to get active is by gardening. Gardening requires physical activity and provides a sense of purpose and accomplishment. Increasing your activity can help reduce risk of heart disease and diabetes and improve mood and sleep quality.

Making time for physical activity is essential to a healthy, active lifestyle as a senior. For many people, retirement is a time when they're more likely to become more active and get out of the house. Some seniors may be taking on new hobbies, like yoga or tai chi, that really get them moving. If you want to stay healthy as you get older, it's important to incorporate plenty of exercise into your weekly routine—your body will thank you.
